Finding our Fruit of the Spirit

When faced with a yelling, arguing child…I can easily to go into fight or flight.

My flesh takes over and all too often, I spew something that is a quick comeback, a biting remark, or a statement that is completely unnecessary and unhelpful. {Fortunately, I do not take on the language of a sailor… -Ahoy Matey, indeed.}

So, where was the Spirit in that moment?

Just in reference to my words alone-when I choose to live in a constant state of reaction-I do not see them producing any good fruit. Clearly, in those moments, I was NOT led by the Spirit.  My words were lost to my flesh; an opportunity missed.

But Jesus wants us to be free.  He calls us to freedom.  He calls us to love and walk and abide in the Spirit.  WHY?  So that we may see the benefits of it.  Those times of fight or flight can turn into moments of grace, learning, listening…loving, patience, goodness, kindness, self-control, joy, peace, gentleness, faithfulness… are you following me?

HOW MUCH MORE FREEDOM could I feel and experience in those tense moments with my kids if I just simply walked in the Spirit?!  -Praise God that there ARE times when I pause just enough to let the Spirit intercede and move in the situation; an opportunity blessed. {Insert a very breathy exhale here!}

For you were called to freedom [sisters]. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another…

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law…

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.

Galatians 5:13, 16-18, 22-25

This month, we explore and “uncrate” the  Fruit.  The sweet, ripe, life-giving fruit that can only come from the Spirt.  Some of our Grace Chapel women will look at what it means to live in the Spirit, to experience the affects of it, what they are learning about it, and even which fruits are difficult to grasp.

Join us.

Listen to what the Spirit might be saying to you.

Be blessed and enriched by the stories from our sisters in Christ.
