The Overcomers event last week is still on my mind and heart. What incredible stories of redemption through the darkest of circumstances. I am humbled by the vulnerability and the bravery of the women who shared. Wow! Judging by the number of women that attended, the issue of shame is a struggle that many of us can relate to, in our own walk. It can fuel lies that damage our identity and cause chronic pain. It’s binding. It’s ugly. And, it’s universal. One of the biggest takeaways I had from the evening is this:
You are not alone.
We are all fighting a battle against shame, in one form or another. Are there lies you’ve come to believe about yourself and your worth, that keep you from experiencing healing? Is there an area of your life that you’ve kept hidden, because you’re afraid of facing off with shame? I can answer a solid yes to both of those questions! So, how can we support each other, knowing this is something each of us struggles with? (Think about it!)
If you were able to attend the event, I hope it was as impactful for you as it was for me! I pray that you are encouraged by these stories of redemption and that the Holy Spirit nudges you toward seeking help and healing.
If you were unable to be there, we missed you! Because of the sensitive content and to protect the Overcomers who shared, we won’t be publishing a recap of the stories. We know you understand!
What we do want to share, is a resource of information that the women’s leadership team put together. It provides a list of groups, websites and books that address some of the topics we discussed. If you are struggling with shame in relation to any of these themes, we would encourage you to use this resource and take a step toward healing. Please feel free to save and send this resource, if you know of anyone that would benefit from it.
You are all Overcomers – and you are not alone.
